Hello,

Looking for help with the marriage of William FORD b. 1840 in Bucklebury to an Amelia  Huh? . 
Marriage around 1890-1891 likely to be in Bradfield, Bucklebury Berks

William’s parents are James Ford and Leticia nee Lavel.   
1881 William is unm, occ gardner, living with his elderly parents.  Parents die in 1888 and 1889. 
1891 William in Bucklebury now married to Amelia age 30  b. Gloucester  with “adopted son”  James  W F Ford age 1.
1901 William, Amelia, son James age 11  (transcription is blurred/mis transcribed)  and Richard H 7  Thomas G 2   are still living at The Foundry Cottage,  Bucklebury. 
1911 Amelia is a widow living w/ her 3 sons Near The Foundry Bucklebury
Only likely death on Free BMD 1901-1911 is William Ford age 71 Jun 1910

Only marriage I have found for a William Ford to an Amelia is Dec 1890 to Amelia BAINS in So. Shields, Durham Huh but seems unlikely as Williams never appears to travel far from Bucklebury.

Hi Lissa,

FreeBMD has this birth:

Richard Henry Ford   DecQ 1893   Bradfield  2c   308


Bucklebury is in the Bradfield registration district so this could be the Richard H found in 1901 census.   Copy of the cert should give you Amelia's maiden name.

Thomas George Ford is also registered   DecQ 1898 in Bradfield.


There is also a James William Ford registered  JunQ 1890 in Bradfield.  Undecided

Hi Nanny Jan,  thanks for the reply and the additional info.

Think I am leaning toward the idea that son James William  was not "adopted" per se but possibly born "prematurely" if that is his birth  in 1890  Roll Eyes
