Alice Tatchell - birth lookup

Does anyone have free access to the birth registration images please?
I am desperately trying to find the birth details of the above.  I have found an entry for Alice Rope Tatcher for Mar 1884 Alverstoke 2b 561 and am hoping this could be her, with names incorrectly interpreted.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi

No member of the public has free access to full birth details.  You have to buy the birth cert 

I can confirm that the full GRO entry is also Tatcher - not Tatchell

Is her mother Julia who was living with Walter Hayward in 1891 but they did not marry until 1922?

Julia was previously married in 1879 to Thomas Cooke in Portsea but was living with her parents in Dorset in 1881

I think the Alice born in Wareham in 1882 is not the same Alice.
There are two Alice Tatchells in the 1891 census - one b1882 in Wareham and the other b1884 in Alverstoke (Gosport) (which is the one whose birth details I am after).  This is why I had hoped someone may have been able to have read the actual image on the BMD in case the one I found had been misinterpreted.
Also her mother Julia was living in Gosport in the 1881 census with her parents (they are all shown as "Latchell"! instead of Tatchell) and I don't believe she was married previously to marrying Walter Hayward, which is the correct one.  She is shown as "single" in that census.

Just found the other Julia (Cook) in Lancs in 1891 with hubby so mistaken identity!!  Really weird that they are the same age, same birthplace and both formerly Tatchell.  Possibly relatives

Did you know that you can put a condition on any application for that birth cert to say you only want it if her mother was called Julia.

If it's the wrong one - the GRO will only charge a £3 search fee

You must fill in the reference checking sheet which is accessed by pressing the reference checking button near the bottom of the page,  and fill in all the fields that you would like the entry to be checked against before you press the 'Submit' button.

No, I didn't know that - that's very useful to know, thanks very much.  I will try to remember that one next time I order a certificate.
Unfortunately, Tatchell seems to be very common in Dorset, but not so many of them outside of that county, but still elusive!

Hi

As Julia and her parents were living in Alverstoke in 1881, I think it's odds on that you have the right birth for Alice

I have searched the 1891 for surname Tatch** with a Hampshire birthplace and she is the only Alice that turns up

I agree it looks like the right birth for Alice.

I found the 1881 census entry for Charles Latchell and his wife Mary A and daughter Julia and found that they were all born S...se, Dorset.  Now that struck me as looking like Swanage, Dorset where I know a number of Tatchells originated from.  There is also a record (1869) of a Sarah Tatchell age 20 marrying a V? Davis in Forton, Gosport (Alverstoke area) with a father Charles Tatchell, Gardener.  Sarah Davis, widow age 32, remarries same parish to Edward Downer her father being Charles Tatcher (sic), Gardener.  Sarah would appear to be another sister to Julia.

Looking at the Swanage records we find two possible Julia births which would fit.  5 Jul 1853 Julia Tatchell to Joseph and Thirza (not yours) and secondly 13 Nove 1853 Julia Tatchel (sic) to Charles ad Mary Ann (looks like yours).

Swanage census 1851 gives a family unit of Charles Tatchell M 29 Labourer born Swanage, Mariann Tatchell Wife 23 Straw Platter born Swanage, Ann Tatchell dau 3 born Poole, Dorset and Sarah Tatchell dau 1 born Swanage.

Thanks for the additional info - I do have some of the census results but the 1851 shows yet another daughter from what I have already discovered.
I also had found some of the marriages, in particular the Sarah Davis (widow) marriage to Edward Downer intrigues me - I also have Downer relations!
The Tatchell connection is for my brother-in-law but Downer is in my family - I will have to investigate to see if these are interconnected.
