Forename advice - Nellie

Hello there

     Would any kind souls out there know the origins of the name Nellie?  I have a Nellie who I cannot find in the BMD and wondered if it was a shortening of something else, I have considered the obvious ones, Ellen, Eleanor etc, but still no joy.

      I know there are some pretty strange ones, I recently came across Polly for Mary Ann, all terribly confusing.
