penybryn terrace/Jones
« on: Monday 13 July 09 22:27 UTC (UK) »

My ancestor John Jones b 1802 had died by 1881, but Ellen his wife on the 1881 census (she was 20 years younger) was living with her three sons at 3, Fairview, village of Colwyn, parish of Eirias.

Penybryn Terrace was at first listed  but then crossed through by the enumerator, and over the top had been written 1,2,3 Fairview.  I am assuming  Fairview may have been one large house segregated into 3 parts?  Does anyone know where Penybryn Terrace was in Colwyn Bay?  I have actually been to try and find Penybryn Terrace and although there is a Penybryn close to the Fairy Glen i couldnt find any trace of Fairview.  Any help please would be appreciated.

Hello paintedlady,

I have found the 1881 census with Ellen Jones and family. Looking at the entries round it, for Pen y Bryn and Llawr y Pentre, plus Colwyn Mill, I am sure that Fairview and Pen y Bryn Terrace must have been in the area of Pen Y Bryn today. Llawr Pentre and Pen y Bryn remain near to Fary Glen as you say.

There is a good web site which mentions the Old Mill and Llawr Pentre at http://www.oldcolwyneast.co.uk/page88.html

I think a directory of the area for 1880s would provide the answer for sure.

Jo.
