Mathison's in New Luce
« on: Wednesday 15 July 09 02:06 UTC (UK) »

I'm looking for any Mathison's that lived in New Luce in the late 1700's.  A James Mathison was on a passenger ship called the "Jackie of Glasgow"  landed in North Carolina, USA in 1775.  Any information would be appreciated Grin

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to Rootschat Smiley

A very useful site for this area is the Wigtownshire pages.

http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~leighann/

You should bear in mind when searching that spelling will vary quite dramatically, especially the further back in time you go. You may wish to hunt for Matheson/Matieson/Mathison/Mathisone/ etc

The official source for BMDs in Scotland is http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

A very useful free resource covering Scottish records up to about 1874: http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

There is an entry for a marriage of a James Mathison in 1770, Inch, Wigtown. It could be worth looking into that.

Happy hunting!

Kirsty
