Jesse Tibbles - burial or date of death (complete thankyou)
« on: Wednesday 15 July 09 12:35 UTC (UK) »

Hi all,

Am on the hunt for the burial or death of Jesse Tibbles. He was noted in 1891 Census as living at 172 Gloster Street Cirencester aged 35 and wife Rosa aged 32. In the 1901 Census  Rosa was head of the household living in Lower Siddington. Therefore it would appear that he died some time between the two Census's. Anyone able to help? Rosa's death or burial would also be welcomed if anyone has the means to locate.

Many thanks.

Gordon

Hi

Although Rosa was head of household in 1901 - she is not shown as widowed

The resource we all use for tracing BMD's for that period is this one

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

Rosa was only 42 in 1901 so if Jesse did die - she may have remarried

Have you found either her or Jesse on the 1911 census

I've searched under Jesse and also under Tibble(s) and under Jes** Tib** but there is nothing on freebmd.  If he was a mariner I'd be suggesting a death at sea but the 1891 shows him as a gardener

Found a George Tibbles same birthyear but he checks out on the 1891 living with his mother Martha

The only other way is to search the full GRO index from 1891 in case he has been missed off which is quite a time consuming task

No 1911 entry on the free index

Hi Gordon

In 1891 Jesse was shown as born in Daglingworth, Gloucestershire about 1856.

I checked the 1901 census transcripts for anyone born Daglingworth 1854-1859 inclusive and there was nothing resembling Jesse or Tibbles that hasn't already been mentioned.

I also checked the death index for Cirencester 1891-1901 for anyone born 1851-1861 incl, and again nothing.

I quit!!

Again Carole and to you too Linda thankyou for having a good go for me...at least its not for the want of trying....

Just to add a bit more meat I know that Jesse's 4 children in their mid teens to 20 all emigated to USA through Ellis Island within a year or two of their mother's death which was 1907. Could he have been incarcerated somewhere?

Hi

If Jesse was in prison in England - he would show up on the 1901 census

If he was in a mental hospital - some records show initials only

Did he possibly leave the family and go to the USA pre-1901?

Is there any info on the Ellis Island records as to the childrens destination that is useful?

Has the 1900 US census been checked for Jesse
