John W DRYNAN - BEM. EX Royal Horse Artillery
« on: Wednesday 15 July 09 16:18 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help in locating the area in Wiltshire where John Dryden settled after leaving the army. John  was born in Middlesbrough in  1920s, and at some stage of his army career he was awarded the BEM.
After a long army career he settled in Wiltshire  (Don't know where) and became a licensee of a Pub, Inn or hostelry, he was married with two sons. Michael and Peter, His mother Mary Elizabeth Dryden nee Stewart died in her early 30s in the early 1930s.

Thanks in anticipation
James

James,

I think your best bet is to visit a public library and search the GRO death registration index for J.D. - after ensuring they hold the records - then order the certificate from the GRO or the local register office.

See http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/

Regards

Chas

P.S.  LDS FHC's often hold a film of the indices - in fact public library microfiches were copied from the LDS film records.

Chas,
Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply. Thanks for the website info on bmd,
I have had a quick look and the Wiltshire one only goes to 1948, John Dryden could  possibly be still alive.

However I will go to my local library and see what help I can obtain there.

My other route is to try and locate a Wiltshire RHA Association.

Thanks again

James  There is only one RHA Association countrywide (I am a member) , but also a number of RA Association branches in Wiltshire to which ex-RHA can belong.  If you visit http://www.forums.theraa.co.uk/index.php you will be able to search out the Secretary of the RHA Association who may have past member details and/or if you contact RAA they may be able to help with RAA branches.  Good luck. Ubique.  Max D

Thanks MaxD
For taking the trouble to reply, I was going to post a correction to the original request for info, I have only yesterday found some info that gives his name as John W Drynan, born in Middlesbrough  1917, I will check out the website you gave,
John Drynan joined the RHA sometime in the late 30s before  WW2  settled in the Wiltshire area after his demobilisation maybe he did 22 years service, I din't know.

The bmd for that area only give deaths up to 1984.

Thanks again

Correction John W Drynan BEM, Royal Horse Artillery.
The original request was for information from the Wiltshire area. This is still the case though the name of the person is corrected,   dob 1916, All other information is the same.

Thanks
