MERRICK Cinderford & Ruspidge Gloucestershire
« on: Thursday 16 July 09 05:19 UTC (UK) »

I'm researching the family of Thomas MERRICK born 1803 Rodborough Gloucestershire occupation Saddler.  He married Harriet HEWLETT born 1811 Soudley Forest of Dean Gloucestershire.

Their youngest daughter Ellen Maria MERRICK (sometimes Helen) born 1848 Ruspidge married Thomas JONES born 1847 in Montgomeryshire Wales.  Shortly after 1871 the Jones immigrated to New Zealand.  The Jones are my direct ancestors.

Fanny Sophia MERRICK born 1833 married Richard JONES a Forest of Dean local & a 'engine smith' by occupation.  At the time of the 1861 census they were living in Birmingham.

Harriet Emily MERRICK born 1835 married Edward FOXALL an accountant & mine agent.

Samuel Hewlett MERRICK born 1838 Little Dean a saddler lived & worked in Lydney until the time of his death circa 1917.

Frederick Charles MERRICK born 1843 Cinderford married Maria ? from Ross Herefordshire & shortly thereafter travelled to the USA where three children were born.  They appear in the 1870 US census at Troy New York where Frederick is working as a machinist.  Between 1871 & 1873 Frederick & family returned to the Forest of Dean where Frederick worked as a saddler at Ruspidge.

I would appreciate any further information regarding this family.

Have a look at the baptism details extracted from Rodborough's BT's at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyGloucester_(N-Z).htm#R

Hello there Derwentwater

I am a direct descendant of Thomas Jones and Ellen Maria Merrick thru their son William Merrick Jones.  Do you want to make direct contact?

Hi Puzzler

I would like to make direct contact!  I descend through Marion Annie JONES.  I'm not that familiar with the Jones' beyond Ellen & Tom's children.  I'm sure our collaboration will be fruitfull, I look forward to it!  At the moment I'm checking out 'PEVERIL' or 'PEVERILL' as a possible maidename for Thomas JONES mother.

Derwentwater.

Hi Derwentwater

I've received a message to say that I am not allowed to receive personal messages.  As I'm new to the rootschat site I don't know why this is or what to do about it.  I will have to study up on the help pages.
