hi

can anyone help i am looking for the correct divorce date of charles and madaline it took place the year of 1919.and hoping to find out what happened to 2 of their children after divorce the children were ian and anthony ,

Possibility that they both joined the services and became officers.

Notes of them in
The London Gazette for 28 Aug 1938, Anthony Peyton Ventris Strachan
The London Gazette for 27 Jan 1939, Ian Trevour Peyton Ventris
Ian also appears amongst the awards in the London Gazette Supplement dated 24 May 1945

Also on the Internet is a recent note by Malcom (you?) that  Flt Lt 43556 of 208 Sqn 
ANTONY PEYTON VENTRIS Strachan, was killed in the desert on 20 Sep 1942.
Have look on the CWG website and see if his details match those you already know.

thanks for the quick reply i do already have the details you mentioned . madaline applied for the divorce 1919 and she remarried in 1923  charles was already in the navy

Did you apply for a copy of the divorce papers held in the National Archives?
They should give you the date.

yeap i did see that on the archives but as i,m new to that site wasnt sure how to get to find out about the actual date, so i put it on rootschap hopeing someone might be able help

If you are unable to get copies of the divorce papers, presuming these were people of some social standing, there was probably a piece in The Times about them.  There are several libraries that carry a comprehensive index to The Times and microfilms of the newspapers themselves, so it may be worth doing an initial search in that index to see if a report was published.

Hi,

If you order a copy of the divorce papers, the National Archives will first let you know the cost (depends on how much copying). My couple were just ordinary people; the heading on the papers is "Forma Pauperis".

I got a set for under £10, sent by first class post.  Very interesting reading.......   Wink

thanks for the info, yes i can imagin divorce paper would make interesting reading i,ll go back on the achives site now and have another read and work it out about how to obtain the papers
