COMPLETED 1861 census help
« on: Friday 17 July 09 04:44 UTC (UK) »

I have been searching for months for a lost relative and think I now may have found her. What confused me was that she probably married very young (17).

I am hoping for a census transcript from 1861 of:
Robert S Bird (1831) and
Agnes Bird (1841) his wife (I cannot find any children born to them)
living in Midlothian.

Hoping someone can help.

Chris.

I know you are looking for the transcript of this Census but I have found the marriage of a Robert S Bird and Agnes Tod on IGI dated 26 Jun 1857. Think the time frame fits, see what you think. Also 2 Robert and Agnes Bird's on 1861 census 1 which you have and on the 1881 Scottish Census but still no sign of children.  Nothing seen on 1871 but may have missed it. Search for Ann Tod birth shows several possibles born fairly widely across Scotland but some in Central belt, did search +/- 2 years of 1841 to allow for the rounding up/down used in the census. Hope this is of help, Thinlizy

The marriage is the correct one I think. She would have only been about 17.
Hoping the census transcript will give me more clues to her before I search further.

Hi Chris and T  Smiley

With the information posted by Ambly on www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,392854.0.html re 1881 which confirmed Robert's place of birth, this looks like Robert and Agnes in 1861:

Robert S Bird 30, cabinet maker, b. St Vincent, West Indies
Agnes Bird 20, b. Edinburgh

Address: 2 Salisbury Sq, Edinburgh St Cuthberts

Hi All,
Thank you so much for all your help, especially the SP death in 1918. I looked today for her death but the only thing that was close was one in 1883. This one seems more likely.
They must be out of the country in 1871 as I can find no trace at all.

I have had email contact with 'lizbeckham' recently. She wasn't sure if the Bird/Tod marriage was correct, but I'm beginning to now believe it is. I will pass the findings on to her.
