methodist chapels
« on: Friday 17 July 09 09:54 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help me with photographs of the following methodist chapels, all of which feature in my family history?  They will either have been demolished or converted into other buildings, but I am sure there must be photos of  them somewhere.  They were all in the Macclesfield circuit . Sad

There are a couple of former Methodist chapels on this link - I don't think they're the ones you want, though just in case:
http://www.moston.org/churches.html

Carl's cam is another site that covers Cheshire, but again I can't see the chapels you mention. However I did find this site, which has lots of photos of former (and some current) chapels in  Macc -

You may find a few more pictures vis Google Images.

Thanks a lot, although I have seen the ones you mention.  I shall keep on googling images and see what turns up! Smiley

Regina,

I have 2 pictures of Water St methodists Church, one is of the foundation stones being Laid in 1913 for the sunday school.

The second is the Centenary of the Chapel in 1908, this doesnt show the chapel itself but it does show the crowds of people lining the street, faces are quite clear in it if you are looking for someone in that time period.

I also have a picture of the Primitive methodist Chapel on high street.

All are from a book called "Looking back at Bollington" which is availible from Bollington Discovery Centre if you want a copy (if you google the title it will also give the link to the discovery centre.
(I have another book specialising in Kerridge, Raiow & Ingersley but I cant find it right now!)

My nanas family came from Rainow, Kerridge, Ingersley Vale & Bollington, her father was a Methodist Lay preacher on the Bollington Circuit until he moved to Manchester in 1916.

I can scan the pictures for you if these are what you are looking for?
