Hello,
If anyone is able to look up 2 births for me in Eaton Socon c 1775 I would be most grateful. I am looking for
Johnathan Tester
Mary White
They married each other in Eaton Socon on 15 November either 1774 or 1776.
Many thanks in anticipation, Zoe

Hi Zoe
Welcome to Rootschat
The records for Eaton Socon have been extracted onto the IGI (International Genealogical Index) - this site allows you to search by parish
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/
However there are no Tester baptisms in Eaton Socon suggesting Jonathan was born in another parish. There are lots of Whites although I couldn't see Mary. The marriage is there for 15 Nov 1796.

Many thanks Jan. I am never sure when I use the IGI if _all_ records for a given parish are online so that's why I was hoping someone might have access to a full copy of the PRs for Eaton Socon. If there is a way to be sure that all records for a given parish are in the IGI could you let me know?
Thanks again for such a speedy response. Zoe

The link to the Hugh Wallis site gives date ranges for the various parishes - if you look at Eaton Socon it gives two ranges for the dates you are interested in 1566-1812 and 1775-1803. Bedfordshire is particularly well covered.
Did Jonathan and Mary have children? Just thinking they may have returned to Jonathan's parish. Also as Eaton Socon is so close to Hunts and Cambs he might be from there? I've just noticed there is a burial for a Jonathan Tester age 82 15 April 1823 in Great Catworth Hunts.
Hopefully someone else will come along who can check the marriage for any extra details.

Is he the Jonathan Tester who was buried at Leicester St George on 6 Oct 1848 age 73? In 1841 he and Mary were living in Leicester St Margaret both aged 65, neither born in Leics. Which narrows it down a little, but not a lot!
If you're lucky a parish of residence other than Eaton Socon might be given in the marriage entry

The 1796 marriage at Eaton Socon is the only Tester entry in Beds pre 1812. I don't think he came from Beds! Equally if 1841 is to be believed he didn't come from Leicestershire either. Apart from that I have an open mind!
Mary was living in Leicester in 1851 age 73 born Bedford (indexed on Ancestry as Fester). She appears to have been buried at Leicester Welford Rd Cemetery on Oct 1852 age 78

*Thanks* to everyone who's had a go at this for me - yes, I'm pretty certain these are the right people, and funnily enough I've recently been in touch with Gilbert Wilson... I've now found the IGI records for John Tester and 2 sisters with parents Jonathon and Mary, so the puzzle now moves over to Hunts where I need to see if I can establish any truth in the family lore that John had 2 brothers, Amos and Jabez.
Thanks again to everyone (and bedfordshireboy please do let me know if you hear anything from the people on ancestry).

No, it's JohnP and the Genes people you're waiting for, not me!
While you're waiting here's a few Beds and Hunts facts to be going on with
Marriages 1771 Jonathon and Ann Law at Catworth 1786 William & Mary Garford widow at Orton Waterville 1808 Susannah and John Adams of Barnack at Orton Waterville
Burials 23 Aug 1788 William at Orton Waterville 2 Aug 1810 Susanna at Eaton Socon 5 Dec 1820 Ann aged 69 at Gt Catworth (presumably the wife of Jonathan) 15 Apr 1823 Jonathan age 82 at Gt Catworth
There are no Tester baptisms on the BVRI in Hunts, but there are still a lot of parishes where baptisms are on neither the IGI nor BVRI. The fact that your lot were non-conformist adds another hurdle

There's no Tester baptised in St Neots according to my newly acquired set of fiche, perhaps not surprising if the family was non-conformist
Having a night in John. The boys have gone to the coast to a music festival which I didn't fancy, and I need an early night. And it's raining! But not enough to do any good.
