Singleton and Battersby families
« on: Friday 17 July 09 11:32 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I am researching my great great grandfather, Thomas Singleton.  My family records show that he married Mary Battersby in 1835 in Warsop, Nottinghamshire.

I do not know whether Thomas was born in Warsop, but according to the IGI, a Mary Battersby was baptised there on 14 September 1814, her father and mother being Edward and Mary.

If anyone has access to the parish records of the church of St Peter & St Paul in Warsop, I would be most grateful to any information which may be available,

Many thanks

Hi Lesley

I can't see anything for a baptism for Thomas, not at Warsop, but this could be his burial.

Thomas Singleton buried 14.06.1842 aged 33 at Warsop abode MW

there is also this burial

Eliza Singleton 20.08.1841 aged 10 weeks daughter of Thomas & Mary abode CW

Hello again

I have discovered that Thomas Singleton was born in West Drayton, Nottinghamshire in 1810, his parents being William and Anne.  He would seem to have had a brother, George, born in West Drayton in 1817.

Can anyone help me find where William and Anne were married and whether there were any other siblings?

Many thanks

Hi Lesley

West Drayton is covered on the Notts FHS marriage disc, but I am afraid there is a gap of 10 years between 1804 - 1814. The only other one listed on the disc is this one

William Singleton m Ann Singleton 28.1.1800 at Lowdham

Hi Amanda

Welcome to Rootschat.

I rented Morley PR's for 3 months at my local LDS library. They went back on the 1st June. I did transcribe some marriages 1800 -1860 and put them on the Genuki site.

Hi Carol,

Thank you I will take a look but most of the family history I have found in Morley is in 1887 because the Ward Family moved up from Norfolk,

Many Thanks
