A challenge for Essex
« on: Friday 17 July 09 22:03 UTC (UK) »

Hi everyone,
Two or three of us have been trying to get back before 1814, for nearly two years, but seem to have become buried in our brick wall.   Our earliest record is for the baptism of Richard Bat(t)ley baptised at Burnham on Crouch on 16 Sep 1814 (born 3 Sept 1814) to Richard and Sarah Batley.  So far we've not found a marriage for them or siblings for Richard.  I'm in despair and don't know what to do next - any help would be gratefully received.

Hi Sue,
Thanks for that.  I have seen that record but how would we work out whether they are the ones?  Sorry, it might sound a stupid question but can you get actual marriage certificates.  Ther's another one for a Sarah Churchyard 1809 but when I sent for it it just gave the bare details nothing extra so I couldn't confirm that one either.

Hi Sue,
Another thought, we are pretty certain that Sarah (Richard's mother) was born in Burnham on Crouch in the 1780s or 1790s is there any way of looking for all Sarah "somethings" during that period in that town?
