ok after a short road trip, my cousin and I are both stuck. Neither of us can seem to get any further than Frank sr. She's gone through all the paperwork and photos we could find on our family. Neither of us can figure out who Frank sr.'s father was or his mother.

Frank & Mary ( you'll be likely searching for Francis or Francois & Marie in Quebec records) might be found in the Druin records...and the surnames in Quebec could be spelled many ways as well...
Why not write to the site that was given you by Lisa ...just in case Severe states in the 1924 story, where in Quebec he was born... http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~onleedsg/docs/gr_bmd2.htm
added: I see now that he only says born Quebec in 1901, not on other censuses..

Have looked through some online resources for a marriage/bond,there aren't many...but nothing...It does seem to be that Philion may be spelled Filion, though... You likely have these pages, but am submitting as I just found them... date of death for Maria June 11th 1892 , and marriages on page http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~onleedsg/docs/gr_bmd.htm
Note that an Elizabeth Philion was a sponsor for this couple in Gananoque on the same page as Severe's brother Charles marriage ( likely where Philion info came from), birth to Severe Dorey & Elizabeth Ann Miller, etc. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~onleedsg/docs/sj_church_b.htm

Canadian, eh!

If Frank was originally from Quebec it is possible that Dorey was an anglicized spelling of their surname so you might want to check out the Doré surname as well.

I guess the ancestors could have been in Ontario for some time...i can't find anything in land either added: found this, though, perhaps for son Severe? http://www.rootschat.com/links/06re/ also looking for Francois Dorey actually brings up some 18th century information so the surname was spelled that way sometimes in Quebec...
Why can't I see Marie on the 1891 or the 1881? I am wondering how the birth year of 1828 was found for her...She'd have been 20 years his junior, and a very young mother ( 16 if Francis's age is correct) Altogether possible, tho...
out of interest, 2 Joseph Dorey/Dory as heads of households, 1833-1835 Wellington Gore district http://ontariocensus.rootsweb.ancestry.com/transcripts/pre1851/1888-index.html Concession 9 Lot 3 Front http://ontariocensus.rootsweb.ancestry.com/transcripts/pre1851/1888-1.html
Did you check out parish records in Gananoque?

yes my cousin and i have both checked the parish records, and all the family records we could locate within all of our living relatives family records, and we are stuck. We are not sure who frank sr.'s father was. Now trying to follow the Philon (Filon) part back as well.
