**COMPLETE** 1851 - Milburn disappears in myster......
« on: Sunday 19 July 09 12:08 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to locate the Nicholson family in the Milburn/Milbourne area in 1851.

I have

1841 living in Gullom Holme  HO107; Piece 1157; Book: 12

John Nicholson  50  Blacksmith
Mary Nicholson  40
John Nicholson  13
Ann Nicholson  9
Joseph Nicholson  6
Jane Nicholson  11
Isabel Nicholson  1

1861 living in Gullom Holme   RG9; Piece: 3957; Folio: 46; Page: 12

Mary Nicholson  Head  Widow  63  b Morland, Westmorland
John Nicholson  Son  Unm  34  Blacksmith  b Gullom Holme
Rowland Nicholson  Grandson  Unm  15  Ag Lab  b Gullom Holme
(All transcribed as Nickolson)

1851 - nothing, zilch, zero!

In fact if I search 1851 (on A***) for anyone born in Milburn, everyone on the results list is living somewhere else!!

So where did Milburn & Gullom Holme go?  Were the residents all evacuated?  Was the village beamed up by aliens?  Or, much less exciting, are the records missing?

If anyone can help with this I would be very grateful.  And if you think they are just hiding, there were only 3 dwellings in Gullom Holme!!

Linda

Hi danuslave

Just checked the areas and Milburn/Milbourne are not transcribed in An***try.

You can check in the year [in this case 1851] and by clicking on the view image in Search [I just click on anyone in the right county] and at the top of the image I click on the county. This brings up a list of civil parishes covered.

Hi Wendy

That was the conclusion I'd reached, but I wonder why?

I think I might have found them.  Trawling through other unread posts (as you do) I found a reference to www.thegenealogist.co.uk who will give you 10 free credits to try their site.

Luckily they have got Milburn in 1851 - so sucks to A***

Still living in Gullom Holme

Mary Nicholson  Head  Widow  53  licensed to sell ale b Morland, Westmorland
John Nicholson  Son  23  Blacksmith  b Gullom Holme
Jane Nicholson  Dau  13  b Gullom Holme
Elizabeth Nicholson  Dau  11  b Gullom Holme
Rollance Nicholson  Dau  5  b Gullom Holme

This raises more questions than it answers

Is this a 2nd Jane?
Did Isabel in 1841 become Elizabeth in 1851
Did Rollance daughter in 1851 become Rowlands grandson in 1861???

Look like a lot of searching still to be done, but that's all part of the fun.

Thanks to those who helped
