Hi Selena

Do youhave a rough date, or is this a firm or just family names?

By 1953 there is the odd Bausor and quite a lot of Cottons, some of which maay be a surname, rather than Cotton industry links.

Best wishes

Thank you Dave,

I do have a Frederick Bausor in my tree and think he was a gardener so will check this further.

Hi Selena

By 1953, the only Bausor is also Frederick:

Bausor, Frederick S, 117 Everton Rd. 13.

There are about twenty Cottons though.  Any names or occupations?

Best wishes

Hi,

I do't think that is a relation.  My Fredrick would defiitely hvae died by that time.  The Bausors had moved to Prestiwch when marrying into Cotton.  Eva Cotton nee Bausor also spent some time in Barrow-in-Furness.

I need to know  Kenneth Cotton born June 1925 mother Eva Cotton, father currently unknown.  His father is definitely not Harry (Joseph Horace Cotton) because he had died before this time.  Ken is my granfather.  Both his children do not know who his real father is but can remember a a possible name change.  Not too sure how to search this one.......

Help?!!!!!!

Thanks for you info.

hi Selena

I get your problem.  Definitely straight forward if there's a name change!

If he was called Kenneth Cotton at birth though, do ypou know if he was born locally?  The only births I can see for Kenneth are not in Lancashire.  That may be because they aren't all online.

By this date thpough, if you look at the GRO birth indexes, the birth entry should give you the maiden name.

Then you can look for a marriage, for the two surnames and find the father's first name - and the mother's.

The To look through them with out going to a library, you need to be paid up to Ancetry - though you can look at that in a library online for free.

This one should be quite short, but I haven't got access just now.

Of course then you can get the full details by sending for the certificates.

Best wishes

By the way, the ones I found on free BMD were:

Kenneth J Cotton (Mother Cox) June-Sep 1925
   Birmingham South 6d 116

and

Kenneth J Cotton (Mother Putnam) Oc-Dec 1925
   Winchester 2c 238.

(Bearing in mind this is the registering date, supposedly up to six weeks after the birth).

None in the area within a couple of years unless not on line.

Best wishes

Thank you Emms.  I did do a search for Kenneths born in that qtr and that is what I came up with too.  We are going to try and timeline Eva Cotton's addresses to see where she lived and try to link that.  My grandad didn't have a middle name although he may have dropped that.  he was in the coldstream guards so I will have a look at their records if I can oce my mum has found his service number.

Thanks for your help.
