Are there any directories for Banff, 1870s?
« on: Monday 20 July 09 21:27 UTC (UK) »

Are there any Post Office or similar directories that cover Banff around the late 1870s?

My mother believed that her grandfather David McGibbon lived in Banff before he moved down to Manchester and settled there.  I can't find any evidence for this - he was born in Renton and lived most of his early life in and around Glasgow.  I suspect that his English family may have misheard and thought he said Banff when he actually said Barony  Undecided - but it niggles that I don't know for sure.

He was in Glasgow in 1874 when his first wife died, and in Manchester for the 1881 census, so its the period in between that I don't know about.  Are there any sources I could check for that period?
