Marraige, early 19th century
« on: Wednesday 22 July 09 15:55 UTC (UK) »

I'm trying to push my tree back another generation but am stuck!

My ancestors William and Hannah Bradbury were from the Bilston area.

They had a son, Joseph, baptised in Bilston in 1819; other children that I've identified were Mary (1821), Esther (1825), Sarah (1831) and Thomas (1833).

William died pre 1837. Hannah remarried Joseph Roderick in Dudley in 1838.

Subsequent censuses suggest a YOB of around 1795 for Hannah, and Bilston as her birthplace.

I haven't yet found William and Hannah's marraige and I don't know Hannah's maiden name. I sent off for her remarriage certificate in the hope that it would say Bradbury formerly X, but it doesn't  Sad

Does anyone have any resources that they could look through to see if they can find a likely marraige for William and Hannah? There's nothing obvious on IGI. Or can anyone suggest any other places I could look, short of going to the records office (which isn't all that easy!)

Thanks, Willow

Joseph and Mary's baptisms are there on the Bilston records but frustratingly there don't seem to be any Bilston marraiges!

Were marraiges performed in Bilston in the 18-teens? If not, where would Bilston folk go to tie the knot?

Hiya

Bilston lost the right to perform marriage in the 1700/1800's so they were carried out in Wolverhampton mainly or they may have gone to Darlaston just down the road

I did note on the baptism of Esther it gives their place of residence as Birmingham could they have been married there? on the IGI there is the marriage of William Bradbury to Hannah Fellows 14.5.1818 at Aston Juxta Birmingham
