Corio/Italy ? brick wall
« on: Thursday 23 July 09 19:00 UTC (UK) »

Hi Everyone
Please be patient while I try to explain   Smiley
I looking for help with my Grandfather Joseph CORIO and Great Grandfather JOSEPH CORIO
I have found my grandfather b 1880 in the 1901 census with his wife Lucy (JAMES) (I have marriage cert ) it says born Hammersmith, London, I have found them in 1911 as well, saying he was born Hammersmith.
The problem is I cannot find him or his father Joseph in previous censuses, or my Grandfathers Joseph birth
I have Joseph c1880 death 1951, but cannot find his father Joseph anywhere.
There are other Corio's and they all lived in Hammersmith 1881 - 1901 as well (before spreading to surrounding areas)
The earliest members were all born Naples, Italy, but I cannot connect my two with any of these. I have ruled out the other Joseph's births as well as the Guiseppe's

The "other" Corios do connect in the fact that two of them married into other families on my tree, and they all lived in the same streets/areas  Huh

Did my Great Grandfather come from Italy ?
I have no idea who my Great grandmother was or if there are other siblings.

I hope this makes sense

Any suggestions of where I can look next very welcome

Hi and welcome Smiley

What was the occupation of Joseph (senior, your great-grandfather) according to your grandfather's marriage certificate?

Hi Jackdaw

Are you certain Joseph was born 1880 as I found a birth for Giuseppe Corio (Italian version for Joseph) but in 1885.

Also look at this site put the surname Corio in the cognome box and you will see there are quite alot of Corios living in Italy now.
