War Memorial? Juniper Green
« on: Friday 24 July 09 11:28 UTC (UK) »

I wondered if anyone knows if there is a war memorial in Juniper Green?
If there is and anyone finds themself near it could they please look to see if Henry McKinnon Marshall (WW1) is mentioned on it.
Many thanks

Hi Evie

Thank you so much for that link. Henry may not be mentioned but it gives me information on the church where some of my ancestors were married which is great.

Hi Evie

I don't know if you already have this but his grave is indexed on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website: http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=90057
It is in Belgium.

Juniper Green was within Colinton civil parish. However there is no sign of Henry's name on the Colinton Parish War Memorial.

Thanks ADP

It now seems possible that he enlisted elsewhere and it is likely therefore that he would be listed in the area where he enlisted and said he was born.

Many thanks for looking

Hi. I am the author of the Balerno, Currie and Juniper Green Memorial book. The  Juniper Green Memorials are inside the Parish Church main door, one for the Parish Church and one from the old St Margaret's Church which is now an old folks home.
The Marshalls are a well known family. Peter and William Marshall I have details for and  I have  additional names not on the Memorial plaques  but your man is not mentioned. Can you send me a pm please.

However he is not listed on Slateford Memorial either.

The Memorial at his place of birth doesn't help either.

Hi Sally,
I can't believe this! My Grandfather was Henry Mckinnon Marshall, My Father was John Roden Marshall (Born Lochore). My half brother is John Crawford Marshall (Born Glasgow).
I have searched for some connection with my family for some time now but with no luck, you are the first connection I have had with the Scottish side of my family, I do hope you will respond to me.

With kind regards,
Rod

Sally,
Brilliant! But I am so sorry I do not know how to reply to your reply! If you can guess what I mean. (I'm a bit of a Neanderthal in respect to computers! Does this message go straight to you or is it shared with the rest of the universe?)

If it is would you please try sending me a message on.......I will then send you my usual e-mail address, phone number and postal address so that we can have a chat and I can swap life stories with you.

One question puzzling me is how was your Dad called "Henry Mckinnon"? I have not come across his name in my searches?

Bloody hell! I can't believe it! You Have Made My Day! Smiley
