Records for Alternative Religions
« on: Friday 24 July 09 18:49 UTC (UK) »

A relative of mine was, according to his gravestone, the "minister of the Associate Congregation of Tough for the space of 36 years".  That would have been from c.1780 to 1816.  Several of his children were baptised in this faith.

Would the records for this alternative religion be held in Aberdeen or Edinburgh?

Hi

I've just done a search on Tough on the NAS catalogue http://www.nas.gov.uk/onlineCatalogue/ and it gives me:

Quote
CH3   Records of Free, United Presbyterian (UP), United Free (UF) and Other Protestant Churches   1725-1891

Repository     National Archives of Scotland
Reference CH3/720
Title    Lynturk [Tough], Associate Session, United Presbyterian Church, United Free
Dates    1763-1953

There might be something in there.

Regards
