1737 Francis Joy, a pioneer of paper manufacturing in Ballymena, founded the Belfast Newsletter. The business was later moved to Randalstown, before settling in Belfast. www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/yourplaceandmine/belfast/newsletter.shtml
Almost one hundred and forty years later Belfast brothers William and George Baird published the Belfast Evening Telegraph on 1st September 1870.

Hello
I've just discovered the Belfast Newsletter (1800-1900) is on line at the British Library Website (link below). This is a pay-per-view site (£6.95 for 200 views), but freely searchable by inputting a surname, etc. You will be able to see the actual page and print it off once payment made. I've found it very useful!
