Samuel Turner
« on: Saturday 25 July 09 16:50 UTC (UK) »

On 24/12/1875 a marriage took place in Bridgeton, Glasgow between Samuel Turner and Mary Eliza Caldwell.

The Groom stated his parents were Richard Turner and Ann Griffin.

The Brides parents were Mathew Caldwell (Coal miner - Deceased) and Mary Boyle (formerly Caldwell, maiden surname Kean).

In the 1891 Glasgow census Samuel Turner stated he was born in Tyrone, Ireland and his wife Mary in Ayrshire, Ayr.
I cannot find any further information regarding their ancestors. I would be grateful for any information or pointers.
Thank you

Hi,
the 1859 Griffith's Valuation(a survey of all property in Ireland) lists only one Richard Turner in Co. Tyrone. He rented a house in the townland of Killycolp in the parish of Desertcreat. This is in the Cookstown area.

Hi,
Thank you very much for excellent information regarding Turner in Killycolp in the parish of Desertcreat re 1859 Griffith's valuation.
When looking at valuation I noticed a James Griffin in Killycolp and was wondering if this could be Anne Griffin's family.
Can you tell me if there is any way to trace marriages?
Great help thank you again.
Alexanderina.

Hi,
If the marriage was a Protestant one it will have been registered with the civil authorities and should be available on the LDS Record Search Pilot site www.familysearch.org  You will have to match the year, volume and page number for Richard and Anne individually.
If the marriage was Catholic it would not have been registered unless the married in a civil Registrars Office. You will need to know the Church and hope that the records exist.
I have had a quick look at various sources and cannot find anything.
