Update:

I finally manage to buy a certificate (had three right in Lotto Smiley ) which came today.

Rather than the marriage cert. of John BENSON and Fanny X,
I decided to get the birth certificate of one their daughters
(my daughter's GG-Grandma) Fanny Elisabeth Vatcher BENSON,
to make sure of her mother's maiden name, which was . . .

. . .   HARDY  !!!!

So that is that little mystery confirmed i.e. HARDY, not VATCHER  !!

but where did the VATCHER come from Huh

Fanny Elisabeth Vatcher Benson's mum was Fanny BENSON née HARDY.
Fanny HARDY's mum was Jane HARDY, because she married John HARDY
and my guess is that her maiden name was VATCHER.

Back to the hunt  . . .   Grin
