I am trying to find out about the background of Finlay William Jackson. In particular I am trying to establish the identities of his father and grandfather and any other information relating to them. Finlay was born in Belfast in 1901 and died there in 1941. Apparently he played cricket and rugby for Ireland. His brother Harold also played cricket for Ireland. I am eager to find out if Finlay and his relations had any links with Scotland. Any details would be most appreciated.

Biographies of Finlay and Harold appears on the Cricket Ireland website http://www.cricketeurope4.net/CSTATZ/irelandall/irehome.htm:-
"Finlay William Jackson Born: 21 November 1901 Belfast Died: 13 March 1941 Belfast Educated: Royal Belfast Academical Institution Teams: NICC"
"Harold Jackson Born: 25 September 1888 Ormeau, Belfast Died: 17 December 1979 Belfast Educated: Rosetta School, Belfast Teams: Ulster CC; NICC"
In addition to statistics there is a considerable written section to each biography which includes the information that their father was Walter Jackson who played for Ulster CC in the 1880s.
Searching EmeraldAncestors.com and AncestryIreland.com, I can find no Walter Jackson married in Northern Ireland at the right time, nor the birth of a 'Finlay William Jackson'. There is however a Harold Jackson born in 1888, the son of William Jackson, and I find the following marriage which looks worth investigating:- Date of Marriage 7 Jun 1881 Groom Name William JACKSON Bride Name Jane FINLAY Church Saint Johns Newtownbreda Presbyterian Parish Knockbreda Civil District Belfast County Down
From AncestryIreland, it appears William's father was Robert, and Jane's was William.
At the pay-per-view site http://www.ancestryireland.com/quis.php, you can order transcripts online for Harold's birth and this marriage certificate for £4 each so you can work out if they are the right people.
