Hello,
On IGI I have found William Mugg born 1728 Tardebigg, marries Mary Crump in 1774 inTardebigg, death 1808 Bromsgrove.
What I am wondering is what he did between 1728 and this marriage at age 46, ie. I'm thinking there is probably another marriage and thus more children before 1774.
On IGI there are 2 other marriages in that time frame, but they appear to tie up (in terms of location) to the other William Mugg's with about the same birth year.
Does anyone have any knowledge of the records that might cover this?
Thanks for any help,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Two things:
1) There are a great many MOGGs in the area and a few MUGGS.. I do not know, however, if MUGGs and MOGGs are the same family, and therefore merely variants or separate lines.
2)The BMSGH have a county marriage index, 1660 - 1837. The only public viewable set of books is at Worcester Family History Centre. BMSGH members can see them at the BMSGH library, in Birmingham. A postal service is available for a fee via http://www.bmsgh.org/search/Wo_marr_index.html
Looks like a day at the records office, since Tardebigge register films are there too. (The IGI may not be complete and the transcriptions of the names may be problematical especially between MUGG and MOGG.) You would also be able to screen the registers for children.
Probate records may be of use, if you can work out William's potential father in laws. (Worcester Family History Centre again) Also William's own probate may help.
There is a Removal Order for William MUGG & Mary & five children in the Easter of 1784 from Bromsgrove to Stoke Prior - parts of Stoke Prior are much nearer to Tardebigge church than Stoke Prior church. If the children's ages were given you would have a big clue. See A2A However, early children born to an early first marriage would be well gone by 1774.
Guess where you see the Removal Order?
Cheers
Mike

Hi Mike,
firstly thank you so much for your help.
Re the MUGGs and the MOGGs, we wonder if at some point, there is some connection between the two. Further exploration on IGI (late last night ) even has some of our 'known' MUGGs also listed under MOGG, so then I wonder if it isn't all a question of pronunciation and transcription (back in the day that is). And William (b 1728) also showed under Mooge. I don't know his parents.
I found Mary Crump's birthdate given as 1749, but no names of her parents.
We haven't been to the Worcester Family History Centre, it will have to be on our to do list. I visited Stoke Prior church a few weeks back and Tardebigge is also on the list, just out of interest rather than info seeking.
The removal order does sound like it is 'our' William and Mary. Can I ask you please in which body of information that kind of info is found?
Thanks again, you've been really helpful,
kind regards, Lisa

Follow this link to The National Archives, advanced search page http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/advanced-search.aspx?tab=1 Enter MUGG and select the repository as Worcestershire Record Office and hit search.
Yours should be the second one down, follow the link and note the reference number. Then email Worcester and ask them. (Worcester has two offices so you will need to go to the correct office.)
