morning to all,
i am hoping for a miracle with the help of some one out there!!!

my search is for otey/oatey/ottey/oti buckley born abt 1874, but unsure where.
he married ada webb in rayleigh in essex 1908 ( i have their marriage cert) i also have their death & burial details but cannot find a birth or baptism for either of them.
on top of that i have not been able to trace them in a census either.

on the documentation i have his name has been listed as ostey buckley and otley buckley. understandable as its not your usual name but in saying that i would have thought it would be easier to trace him, but not so.  Cheesy
it was thought that he came from the midlands but as he came from a travelling background that could just be one of many stopping places. his parents were santalina buckley & henrietta boswell and i have been able to trace them later in 1800's but again not with otey living with them. sant & hentrietta settled in eastwood on the bohemia estates and both are buried at eastwood church. i have detials of some of their other children and some old newspaper articles for her. again nothing for otey..........

does anyone know if otey is an alias for another name??
has anyone ever come accross his name.??
would really appriciate some help as have been looking for nearly 2 years now and he is still avoiding being found  Grin
im sure that would please him if he knew  Grin

any help HUGELY appriciated.

otey buckley 28 bachelor, hawker, of rayleigh essex father samuel buckley (alias for santalina) hawker.
to ada webb 21 (age probably not true) spinster of rayleigh essex, father tots webb (think this is his alias for tomas) hawker witnessed by dennis buckley & william edward smith 5th oct 1908.

28y in 1908 gives a birth of 1880 (or so) not 1874..

hi again pauline,
yes i know that was why i put "abt" . the death certificate and headstone give his age as i am led to believe that he was older than the date he put and she was younger that the day she put??  Shocked
i know that they went to kent alot but thats about it.

whenever i have searched i usually put 5 or 10 years either side of the date as like i said their dates dont match up  Wink

Hi

According to my records, Sant Buckley had a first cousin called William Buckley alias Smith (son of Elijah Buckley and Elizabeth Smith) who was also known as 'Oti'. So could 'Oti' be equivalent to William in this family?

Also, am I right in thinking that your Otey had a brother called Perun/Perrin? I have Perrin in the 1911 census at the Bohemia Estate giving his birthplace as Latimer Road, Shepherds Bush, and his age as 50. So that might be a lead for an area to search for Otey's baptism.

What does Sant give as his birthplace in the censuses where you've found him? And have you located him in 1911?

hello sharon,
ah yes thanks for that reminder on william. i do have that written down somewhere. you could be right, it could be an alias......

i dont have a search membership with anyone at the moment so have to wait till i can go to the ERO. i have a book that i write all my little "to do's" in, ready for when i get there. although this one has been in my book for every visit as i just cant seem to find him. Cheesy
makes it all the more difficult now with the kids off school...........again........and this time for 6 wks.  Roll Eyes
i dont have anything for sant in the 1911 census.
yes perron/perun is otey's brother. i have perons details and census details ( and very lucky to have photos)
just been through some old notes to see when i last found sant which is 1871 in west ham. well i believe it is him with his wife and 5 of their children. but they were using the surname "butler" not buckley. nothing after that, as yet....(she says ever so hopefully)  Grin

hi, oaty or however it was spelt was my uncles name, he was born to Sanatlina and linda or lenda buckley as far as i know his nickname was coogie (dunno if thats spelt right!......not so sure of the year of birth but from Eastwood definately, buried in Hockley!

santalina and henrietta were a bit far back for our memories but would be interested to know what link they were to santalina and linda also buried in eastwood.

my family memebers and myself live in leigh. im alwys bumping into the eastwood lot.

sant & henrietta had over 20 children.

of those there were peron who was the father of your sant (another one named after his ancestors) and my oatey was the brother of peron. there was aobut 15 years between 2 brothers.
just to confuse you a bit more, lenda, wife of your santalina is the sister to my g.granny beattie.  Cool
does this help or just confuse you more?

Actually that makes sense cos I remember my mum mentioning those names.....it's actually helped to confirm a few things!!!! amazing that I just came on this site out of the blue today!
