hello gladys,

Have you more info about her, perhaps who she married in later years. There are a few Rebeccas born around then at Dunstable in 1841 / 1851 censuses.

regards John

I noticed that marriage on the IGI.

For Rebecca it states only that her father was John - so unspecifically not John Cherry then.  William Chamberlains father was Joseph Chamberlain.

Hello John,   i looked on IGIs for Rebecca Cherry but couldn`t find her so her father must be John Cherry and William Chamberlains father would be Joseph as he has a son Joseph aged 15 in 1841 census.  Was there a John Cherry with daur Rebecca born 1815 at Dunstable when you first sent me the topic.   Thanks a lot. Gladys;     Like you I cannot find a baptism of Rebecca Cherry on the IGI in Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard or anywhere else in Bedfordshire.

I cannot find her on 1841 census or even a John Cherry

I did notice a FreeBMD Death Index of a John * Cherry at Leighton Buzzard RD vol 6 page 4* in  Oct-Dec 1838; could it be him.

There may be more info on her1843 marriage certificate to William Chamberlain, you could send off for it or view the parish record entry at Beds Archives or Luton library.

On Genes ReUnited there are 3 trees that have Rebecca Cherry born Dunstable, one most likely is yourself; have you contacted the other two people?

Regards John

Hello John,  i have just been in contact to one person for Rebecca Cherry which was about three weeks ago so the other ones off genesreuntied would have been for the Chamberlains, looks like i won`t get any where with Rebecca.   I shall put a request in for the marriage as i know of one person who might look the marriage up as she sent me loads on my Spring family so i will give it a try.    By the way i see you have the name Bishop in your family which i have a Frederick Bishop.   Thank you so much for helping me.   Much Appreciated.   Regards Gladys. Hello John, just to let you know that i sent for a copy of William Chamberlain and Rebecca Cherry`s marriage certificate at Bedford Archives and have just recieved back to day and Rebecca was a widow and her father was John which looks like W/Hooller, i can`t make it out really.  William was a widower.    Brick wall now. Huh

Regards Gladys.

Gladys,  Don't rush headlong into that brickwall - use the information.

If Rebecca was a widow on her marriage in 1843 then lets go looking for a the dead male Cherrys in Leighton Buzzard just before then. I would not think that a younger than 28 woman would not want to stay widowed for so long. FreeBMD has a couple, Samuel 1837 &  John * 1838.

Wonder if either of them married a Rebecca ? ? ? ?

regards John

Could the father's name be WOTTON? In 1871 she gave her age as 57, which could tie up with a baptism of Rebecca Wotton at Dunstable on 26 June 1814, father John

You might have to purchase the birth cert of one of her children to have another go at her maiden name

Hello John,   you are a good help, i was going to scan the cert which isn`t a good one so i clicked on attach and nothing happened.   Yes i think the name could be Wotton so its a birth cert for one of the children i guess.  That must be her then at Dunstable 1814.    Thanks very much indeed.  Regards Gladys.  Smiley

Hello Gladys,

Interesting thought David... there is a FreeBMD marriage in Oct-Dec 1837 of a Rebecca Wooton in Luton RD vol 6 page 154 - shame that there are no other names listed for that same page.

I still can't find a marriage of a Rebecca Wotton to a Cherry though. Perhaps John can come up with the goodies!

David (not John)

Good spot John. I knew I could rely on you!

There's also an Emanuel Cherry marriage in Luton in Dec 1837 vol 11 p 157. He was buried age 23 on 10 Nov 1838 at Dunstable

QED?

even better.... the FreeBMD site finds me Emanual Cherry in Luton RD vol 11 page 157 in Dec qtr 1837, the page number is suspect - if you click on it the other names are in Bristol.

Now when did Emanuel die - thought I saw a death index entry for him in Leighton Buzzard in 1844 - after the 1843 marriage ?
