John Louis RAFFIN
« on: Tuesday 28 July 09 20:13 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to trace the ancestors of my Great Grandfather,John Louis RAFFIN (possibly a shepherd in Germany before migrating).. He was born in Cassel (Kassel),Hesse, Germany about 1835. He migrated to Australia in 1856.
His parents were Julius Augustin RAFFIN (Merchant) and Louisa FRIKEN.

I would also like to find out details about John Louis RAFFIN'S wife (married in Australia  12 March,1866).
Her maiden name was Rebecca McClane (also spent McLean) born 1842 in Mullintomogh,Tyrone,Ireland.

If you're Greg, then I'm your 3rd cousin Geoff.  If that's right, let me know your actual e-mail address and we can compare notes.

Welcome to rootschat both of you.  Smiley

I'm just butting in here to let you know that you both have to make three posts before being able to send and receive a personal message via rootschat.

The number of posts you have made is the small number under your name. Once that is "3" you can contact eachother by clicking on the other person's name on the left side of the page.

Of course if you still need information about your family to fill in the blanks, you can post here on rootschat. Sometimes a better result is achived if you post the question on the board relating to the family - in this case Australia if you require information about their descendants or lives there, or Germany if you require help with the family further back.

Good luck. I hope you have a connection.  Smiley

Hi Geoff..GO260
You're on track. It would be interesting to see what your research has revealed. As indicated i have struck trouble in tracing back from John Louis Raffin. Apparently we have to have 3 posts before we can contact each other ( I'm not fully conversant with how the system works) so put out another post and we'll see how we go. Hope to hear from you.

Hi Sea Eagle,
You're on track... you need 3 posts before you can use the PM system.  So maybe post on another question you may have and then thanking the person who replies should give you 3. Cheesy

Geoff needs to do likewise and rack up 3 posts to reply to you.

Re:John Louis Raffin
This man arrived from Kassel Germany-to Queensland. I have a reasonable amount of information of his story after he arrived in Australia.
Can anyone help me find out more about (i) his parents-Julius Augustin Raffin (merchant) and Louisa (nee Friken)
(ii) His wife Rebecca McLane (also spelt McLean) born 1842 in Mullintomough,Tyrone,Ireland.
(iii) John Louis Raffin's life in Queensland,Australia ?

Hi again Sea Eagle Cheesy

Why don't you put the well set out info from your last post here onto the Australian Board of rootschat and use the word Q'ld in the subject line along with his name?

There are some RCers who are fantastically knowledgeable about Aus. data and have lookup facilities.

Hi Charlotte,
I am not familiar with this website.Could you please tell me how to place my query on the Australian board? Once I know how to do this I will then follow your suggestion.
