GOATER wedding St Nicholas
« on: Wednesday 29 July 09 13:18 UTC (UK) »

Afternoon all,

I have been researching my Hampshire based Goater family and have come across a Goater family in Nottingham who were involved in the printing business. I'd really like to see if I can find the connection between the families.

I have Alfred Goater born c. 1819 in Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire. He marries Amelia Thurman in Nottingham in 1841 and is recorded in the various censuses as Geter, Gooter and Goater.

I sent for his marriage cert and his father is listed as George - occupation looks like gentleman but could be anything!!!

I found a marriage on Pallots for a George Goater and Sarah Fox in 1810 at St Nicholas which looks promising but I can't find either George or Sarah on the 1841. Alfred in 1841 is listed as Geter and is a bookbinder but not living at home.

On their marriage Alfred and Amelia are both recorded as being resident at Finkhill St, Nottingham.

If anyone can help me move forwards I'd be very grateful.

Best wishes

Maria

I answered your PM before I saw this thread. What information are you after on Alfred & Amelia ?

Thanks Carol.

I have the info on Alfred's family going forward. I was hoping that I could find some further info on his father George which would help me link to the Sparsholt Goaters which is my paternal line.

I thought if I could find Alfred's baptismal record for instance (or any of his siblings if there were any!) that I could maybe make the connection. It doesn't help that I can't find George or Sarah on any of the censuses.

Thanks for taking so much trouble to help me, I really appreciate it.

Best wishes

Maria
