A new generation - my great grandson 11-09-09
|
Hi Maz,
don't know if this helps or hinders the headache
There is a baptism in Mitford (Bishops transcripts) for Ralph Armstrong - 28 Feb. 1841, to James and Eliza Matthews of High Heighly, father Hind.
IGI have a baptism for Mary Ann in Long Horsley (extracted) for 22 Feb. 1839, parents James Armstrong and Eliza.
Unfortunately the only baptism I can find in Mitford for a William shows him baptised on 28 Jan 1844 - illegitimate son of Eliza Armstrong

Hi Barbara,
Hauxley is OK, Linden is, I think, in Longhorsley parish and I suspect that Nigkley is a bad transcript for Heighly/Heighley.
Not sure about East Ekington - have to look that one up myself

Well I think that's great, Christine.
I imagine James Armstrong died, Eliza took up with John Young and had son William before she married John, if she actually did marry him, I couldn't see a marriage for them.
While I was typing this you've been sorting out the birthplaces, as I have been doing, I just thought I'd type what I saw before making any guesses, and you say the same as I was going to put now, that Heighley is probably right - have you seen the census image? Edington is near Mitford where Ralph was born, so I've modified my earlier post - it's indexed as East Chivington on ancestry!

Didn't exactly sort out the birthplaces - shortcut more like
I know Hauxley (which isn't too far from Broomhill and Hadston, now I think about it). Last Thursday I drove past Linden Hall just before I drove into Longhorsley - so an educated guess on that one
