hello Barbara! Yes, your hypothesis is looking very good!  Grin  Right now, I'm searching the IGI to see if Isabella Paxton is a child of Robert and Margaret...Thank you so much for your interest in this entire matter! Pat

hello again, Barbara, Well, the IGI MAY have some answers about the PAXTON group you found in 1841: Margaret, age 76, is probably the widow of Robert Paxton and the Mother of Harriet (Herriot Paxton) of the illegitimate child, Margaret Ann Paxton b 1833 is her daughter, according to the IGI.  Robert and Margaret also had a son named John who was chr in 1807 in Spittal following the death of an earlier John in 1802. (That might be him in the census in 1841 with the age slightly off.) Since Isabella became head innkeeper apparently after Margaret's death, I would assume (ahem!) she should be Margaret's daughter, altho a baptism for her does not pop out at me.  Certainly lots of food for thought and I do want to thank you again profusely for all you have done to help me on this. Hi Pat,

Have now drawn a blank, have been looking for Ann Best in 1841, also for Harriet Paxton and James Best who married in 1839 ... but not found them in 1841 or 51

no luck, sorry

Hello again! hmmmmm, I'm thinking possibly emigrating to US or Canada or simply moving up across the river to Scotland?  Thanks for searching.   Smiley  Pat
