Angus/Fraser Old Machar

George Angus bc1827 and Ann Fraser bc1828 married  in 1851 in Old Machar.
George with his parents and his brother William had moved down to London and were recorded as living in Pentonville in the 1851 census.
Both brothers returned to Old Machar to marry and then William and his wife and his parents returned to London, and I have traced them through my family tree.

George and Ann however seem to have vanished off the face of the earth!  They do not appear in any census's in Scotland or England.

However George is shown as recording both his mother and his fathers death in London, which falls before the 1871 census.

If they emigrated they must have come back.

Any ideas of where I can go now?

Have you considered the possibility that Ann died and George re-married?

There are a number of Ann Angus deaths on freebmd but there is this 1861 entry for Northumberland

No I had not considered that.  It may be an idea to look for another marriage certificate for George.
He was a millwright, which as I understand is a transferable skill to engineer.  I would presume a millwright would travel the country to fix mills?

You can discount the 1853 marriage to Jane Hunter in Durham - George's fathers name was Robert according to the IGI entry

The only other one in England to a Jane was 1859 which does not tie in with the age of eldest child on the 1861 census (unless it was Jane's)

My George's father was William and he was a tinsmith.  His mother was Mary.
My whole family seems to have the names of Kings and Queens which make it rather difficult to trace as these names are so common.  However the line of his brother William kindly inserted the maiden names of grandmothers and mothers as a second name into the children's names.  So I have a John Dunn Angus (Dunn being mothers name) and Margaret Smith Angus (Smith being grandmothers name).  This does not help with George's line though because as yet I have not found any children!

Hi

You could risk sending for the 1859 marriage cert but put a condition on the application that you only want it if George was a widower and his fathers name was William

If it's the wrong one - the GRO will only charge a £3 search fee
