There is a Mary McKie, b. Anwoth, aged 35, living in Auchinleck, Ayrshire. However, she is married to a John McKie so this might not be her M.S.

Could it be her?

I'll give the full info if you think it might be - quite a few children!

Cronberry Rly Crosing Cottages, Auchinleck
577/2 ED 5 P 6

McKie
John, 36, raliway surfaceman, b. Troqueer, Kkd
Mary, 35, b. Anwoth, Kkd
Mary J,12, b. Saltcoats, Ayr
Catherine, 10, b. Moffat, Dfs
Maggie, 6, b. Dumfries
Jessie A, 4, b. Dumfries
William, 2, b. Dumfries
Agnes, 11 months, b. Dumfries

Sadly, the Ayrshire Mary isn't yours either  Sad  Her M.S. was Hyslop and she and John m. Kelton in 1887.

I see your Mary Ann with her parents in Anwoth on the 1871. What is the last census that you have her on?  have you found a marriage?

Hi ev

Her parent's were James and Mary in 1871 - living Anwoth. James was 40 and Mary, 34. James a farm labourer b. Sorbie, Wigtownshire.

I started looking for a marriage for Mary Ann  but nothing coming  up that looks promising as yet.

I've just looked at the 1881 that you referred to ev,  The names, ages, etc, are so similar to the 1891 in Kirkcudbright that I think that she did indeed change her name.  I'll have a look t the image.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for my slow response,

Mary anne's parents were James and Mary McKie.   I have the family through to 1891, mum died in 1887

Hi Gadget,

I don't think she immigrated, she was the sister of my grt-grt grandfather Robert McKie.  I think she must have married however it is hard to pin down on SP. I will take the punt and order Ev's suggestion

Thank you so much for looking up all the census possibilities for me, it was very much appreciated.

Unfortunately I am reduced to dial up speed until tomorrow as my darling son maxed me out  Sad  Don't you just love them.
