Hi Joan, welcome to rootschat

Thanks for the info - unfortunately Amble church records for baptisms start in 1879 and Pete is looking for circa 1800.

He seems to have searched all the neighbouring churches to no avail - any thoughts on any he might have missed?

Hello,

Alnwick would have been nearest, followed by Felton then Widdrington.

Joan,

Pete is looking for Catholic Baptisms for 1800 era.  Was there a Catholic church in Widdrington in 1800 era ?

Pete, for your interest ...Blakes recorded in Warkworth Parish Church

Marriage 4 Oct 1830 Thomas Blake >< Elizabeth Dryden

Burials
3 Mar 1833 Alexander Blake of Acklington, aged 63
28 Jun 1836 Elizabeth Blake of Acklington Park, aged 54.

In Newcastle Library there were two sets of microfiches for Warkworth Parish
Bapts/Marriages/Burials 1813-1839
Ditto 1600s- 1812.
But I could not see the Non-Conformist Bapts 1723-1824...

Thanks Michael, i have all the marriages and burials but baptisms, nary a one until 1834 by which time they'd switched to presby. I did find one who moved to Gateshead in 1840 and was baptised at St Josephs RC along with his children in 1860 so i'm guessing he was not baptised before. Being somewhat ignorant of catholic matters, (and religion in general) i suppose one wouldn't get baptised into the same faith twice?

Pete,

I know of no "double" baptisms in RC church, or in any faith !

On another Northumberland message board there is a current debate on "delayed" baptisms which extended to folk been baptised in more than one faith, or not ?

So, not English, Roman or Scotch church. Huh. 1810 was a bit early for the Moonies so nowhere much left to look.
Back to the drawing board. Thanks all for the assistance

Yep Michael, i read somewhere about the fees charged for registering births/baptisms, and perhaps those few shillings could be better spent elsewhere.
At least i now know why i'm not pious Smiley
