Hi - I'm looking for the birth of Anthony Wellman around 1791 probably near Reading or of Mary Barkshire around 1796 in the same area. They were married in Reading in October 1819, but I have no parental details. Any ideas on how to get more details?
By 1851 Anthony and family are in New Windsor - Peascod Street
Anthony Wellman H M 59 Smith & Ironmaonger born Berks Clewer Mary Wellman W M 54 born Reading Jane W N Wellman d U 30 born Bray Edward W Wellman S U 27 born Bray Alfred A Wellman S U 21 bron Bray Ann Mickle neice U 29 House Servant born Reading
I know that Clewer is fairly well covered in the IGI so I tried a slightly different spelling and found Anthony WILLMAN baptised 18th Dec 1791 in Clewer s/o William & Jane
there is also a likly baptism for Mary Berkshire in the IGI Reading St Giles Mary Berkshire baptised 10th June 1796 d/o John & Leah
Hope this helps

This is wonderful - many thanks for this. Great to be able to go back another generation.
Only slightly confusing bit is that my direct line goes thru John William Wellman born around 1820/21 where you show a Jane W. Wellman. Could it be a John not a Jane - or did they have twins and he had left by then (but not married until 1854)? Or maybe born just before. Is it definitely a Jane? Twins may be most likely if so.
I am so sorry to have given your ancestor a sex change - I have looked again this morning and it does say son not daughter - but the name still looks like James I checked with the indexes produced by BFHS and the transcriber there has James as well - will this do (at least its the right sex)

Hi Debbie Thanks for checking and confirming no sex change! In later censuses he is clearly a John so maybe he just changed from James for some reason - people do I guess. May explain why I haven't been able to track him down under "John".
