French/Dutch Shipping Records c.1700
« on: Friday 31 July 09 09:03 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Are there any records left of ships and their passengers that left France/Holland in the late 1600s/early 1700s?

Thanks

Look here at the Amirauté de Guyenne (1640-1792)
 - it contains some records of passports and ships arriving/leaving Bordeaux. These records can be viewed online (if you are patient, as there do not appear to be name indexes; it would help to have a better idea of the exact date).

Yikes! Thanks jorose. I am looking on behalf of another researcher so will check with them whether they know the exact date.

All I know at present was the ship was called the Shield and it sailed form either France or Holland and arrived in Staten Island, New Jersey.

So far all I have found on the actual ship is the following:-

On closer inspection that link is relating to the "Shield of Stockton" which was wrecked c.1678. Guess there must have been another ship called "The Shield" a bit later.
