Hi
I’m looking for information on my great grandmother Jessie O’Malley nee Moody, born in Attercliffe 1888 (possibly 1881), died 28/06/1914. Last known address Auckland Street, Nottingham which used to be right near General Cemetery Nottingham. I think it’s the Parish of All Souls. Died in Nottingham Workhouse Infirmary, Bagthorpe. I’ve asked Nottingham City Council if they can check their records and let me know where she’s buried, but they charge £10 per cemetery look up!
Also I can’t find any marriage records for her and my great grandfather Patrick O’Malley. Although it’s possible they didn’t marry in Nottinghamshire.
If anyone could help me I would be extremely grateful, it has taken me a long time to get very little information. I just don't seem to b getting anywhere.
Many thanks – Jessica.

Hi BBG
SORRY cant help with Burial. And cant find the Marriage.
I found you Tree and can see what you have. To summarise;
I cant find a marriage to Jessie Moody at all either. Possibly they never married. Children with Mother MOODY; BERNARD O'Malley, Dec. 1911, Nottingham, 7b 747
Other possible children, no Mothers name listed, reg. Nottingham; AUSTIN, March 1905 HUBERT, March 1906 EDWARD, 1907
Patrick married Ada BARNES, June 1916, Basford, 7b 456
Child from this marriage was; THOMAS O'Malley, Dec. 1918, Basford, 7b 486, Mother Barnes
Death reg; Jessie O'Malley, June 1914, Nottingham 7b 501
QUESTIONS please
Do you have Jessies Death Cert?
Birth Cert of O'Malley child you are descended from and his Marriage Cert?
Marriage Cert of Patrick and Ada Barnes?
All of these are needed to research from. Please provide these details if possible.
Cheers, Trish

Possible 1881 census for Patrick
1881 Census RG11/3471/110/8 31 Ince Street, Heaton Norris, Lancashire
Edward O'MALLEY, 36, mar, railway labourer, Mayo IRELAND Bridget, 29, mar, wife, Mayo PATRICK, 7, son, Mayo Austin, 5, son, Mayo Martin.J. 4, son, Mayo Mary.A, 3, daug, born Heaton Norris, Lancs
Looks good as I think Patrick named one of his children Edward ( after Father) and Austin ( after brother)
Also purchasing the birth cert of youngest child Mary would give you maiden name of Bridget.
Ther are 3 possibilities on Freebmd but you would have to specify parents names.

Hi
Had just written a long message and my laptop restarted and installed updates, grrrrr.
Anyway! Thanks so much!!! Looks v promising
Patrick and Jessie's children were Bernard, Austin, Hubert and Edward. Hubert is my granddad. Patrick and Ada had Thomas and then adopted Arnold Barnes O'Malley. I assume Arnold was Ada's nephew (she wasn't old enough for him to be her biological son).
Patrick's marriage cert to Ada states his father is Edward, and that he was a labourer!
The family you've named in the 1881 census sounds really promising, I cam across similar names within a family in Mayo, but am never sure when to be 100% sure it's the correct family. Also my granddad named his eldest child Patricia Bridget O'Malley. So surely it's the right family?
I will look into Mary's bith cert
When Jessie was 19 I know she was living Droylsden which is only 8 miles from Heaton Norris! It never ever crossed my mind that Patrick's family moved across, I just had it in my head that he moved over by himself. Surely it's right.
Answers to your quests:
My cousin (Edward's daugter) has Jessie's death cert. She died, aged 33, died 28/06/1914, of an incomplete abortion and septicaemia at the Nottingham Workhouse Infirmary, Bagthorpe. Do you need any further information from it.
I also found this info out at Notts Archives: **Workhouse master's admission and discharge registers, 1856-1920, available on microfiche - data for Jessie's year missing.
**Register of deaths, 1851-1926, available on microfiche - information not available, that year missing. Although they said it would be the same as below.
**Register of deaths in infirmary, 1908-1920, available on microfiche - found Jessie, but there was nothing new on there, no date of birth, no record of where she was buried. It states who buried by and it states 'friends'. Most of the records say friends, but some stated parish. I wondered if parish meant a state funeral, and friends meant family or friends.
**Creed registers, 1910-1942 (Reference: PUO/2/10/1-23), giving name, occupation, religious creed, year of birth, last address, name and address of nearest relative, ward in which kept and dates of admission and discharge - looked under the Os and Ms and she wasn't there. They stopped filling in the book in May, I looked through other letters and those were about the same too, May or beginning of June, I think they must have been too busy for paperwork.
I have the marriage for Ada and Patrick but have recently moved out of my old house and my family tree info is still there. I will collect it at the weekend.
I will ask my mother and also my cousin if she has birth/marriage certs for Hubert or Edward.
Thanks so much for your help!

I cant find anything on Jessie other than the Census you mention. I tried looking for the marriage of people she was boarding with with hoping it was her sister but no luck. Hannah was not a Moody .

Hi
Thank soooooo much for all your help
In the 1911 census whih lists Patrick and Jessie in Nottingham, and he was a Cotton Doubling Overlooker, so it's the right trade. Plus another repeated name Thomas!
I still need to order Mary's birth certificate don't I? To make sure Bridget's maiden name is Deane.
Regarding Jessie there are alot of family rumours/talk, I've copied the emails from my mum's cousin :
**apparently there were two maiden aunts (Patrick's sisters, I presume) who lived in Manchester who would help out by having a the children if they were ill, they helped with kitting them out with clothing too. My sister, Jenny, found this out from someone called Eileen Hobson, who was brought up by these two aunts. I tried to trace her death cert because my sister said she only died last year but could find nothing. This same sister was told when she was a child that Jessie Moody was a very beautiful woman. Illegitimate, apparently, so the O'Malley's didn't want Patrick to marry her, hence the elopement.
The maiden Aunts must be Mary Ann and Norah as they are tailoress and dressmaker!! And the Manchester link.
**My sister heard from the woman called Eileen Hobson, who was brought up by Patrick's sisters, that Jessie Moody was Irish too. Born in Ireland, illegitimate daughter of a wealthy landowner. Because of her illegitimacy, the O'Malley's didn't want Patrick to marry her, so they eloped. I don't know where to, but they must, I think, have married in Ireland, because I can't find any trace of their marriage in England.
Eileen Hobson has died, so I can't ask her any information.
Exciting stuff. Thanks so much, I'm so overwhelmed by all this info!
Jessica

Hello Trish
The certificate arrived today.
Thomas son of Edward and Bridget O'Malley Edward - general labourer Bridget's maiden name is O'Malley! Have an email from my mum's cousin and she has always said that two O'Malley cousins married in the family, so that must be them.
I also saved various records ages ago and never did anything with them as I wasn't sure if they were right, my mum's cousin also did the same thing.
I have: 1872 Edward MALLY Culleen of Pat MALLY to Bridget MALLY of Martin MALLY Kilsallagh February 7 Dispensation So, they match too.
Thank you so much for your help. I have so many more avenues to explore now. I was stuck in a rut, just thinking that Patrick moved here and it never crossed my mind that the whole family did.
Thanks v v v much
