KIRK christening 1820 St Vigeans
« on: Friday 31 July 09 21:50 UTC (UK) »

Have got original record but cannot read where family come from. Can read some eg West Kirkton and Smithycroft. There 3 on the page including my ancestor from the same place but I cannot make it out. It looks something like Almeriedoss. I cannot find anywhere like this on a map of Arbroath - has anyone got any ideas?

Hello, Mary Clare,

I've come across an Almeriecloss East and Almeriecloss West in a booklet of St. Vigeans Records published by the Tay Valley Family History Society.  A modern Almerie Close shows up on a Google search.    The booklet is a list of church members, giving names and districts only, but it includes a good Statistical Account of St. Vigeans, written in 1842.

Aploogies breaky I got your name wrong - didn't have my glasses on! Almeriecloss is indeed part of St Vigeans - there is reference to a mansion there and to a railway line reaching there (found on google).Thank you again. COMPLETED
