Death of Mr. Thomas Walker Laughton of Grendon, 1843
« on: Friday 31 July 09 23:24 UTC (UK) »

From the Northampton Herald 1843.

SUDDEN DEATH:---- An inquest was held on the 27th ult., at
Grendon. before G. Abbey, Esq., on view of the body of Mr.
Thomas Walker Laughton, a baker of that place, aged 27 years.
It appeared that the deceased on the Wednesday night pre-
ceding went to bed at eleven o'clock, apparently in perfect
health, after eating a hearty supper of meat pie with small beer;
that the following morning at six o'clock he awoke his journey-
man (who slept in the same room with him) and appeared also
then quite well, but two hours afterwards he was found by
his sister in his bed quite dead.  It appeared from the evidence
of a medical man that about a year ago he found deceased la-
bouring under disease of the heart, which almost invariably ter-
minated fatally.   Verdict--------- "Visitation of God".

At such a young age too.

exactly- and so sad and I do think that it may have been quite comforting and perhaps accepting for his family in those times - giving him over to God.
My gt gt gt grandfather committed suicide in 1827 and his depression was acknowledged at the inquest but the verdict was 'lunacy'- doesn't seem quite so sympathetic.  Sad

Hi again Heywood.

That does seem grossly un-far.  Sad

I have a relation who committed suicide and was still buried in
the Churchyard as the verdict was in his favour, having been
known to have Religious Mania.
