The SLATERS of Greetham
« on: Monday 03 August 09 11:49 UTC (UK) »

Hi all!

I am writing this in the hope that somebody may be able to offer me some help on the Slater family of Greetham, Rutland.

My granddad was Robert Frederick Salter and was born in Greetham in December 1922. His parents were Thomas Robert Slater and Emily Slater (nee Buxton).

I know he had siblings called Edna, Bill, Daisy and possibly Muriel but I am unsure of her full name and can not trace her.

My grandads dad died before he was born and Emily Slater went on to marry a Bob Taylor. They then possibly had two more children but I am unsure of their names.

If anybody has any information that they could share with me I would appreciate it very much.

I would love to know more about Thomas Robert Slaters family and also Emily Buxtons family.

Please, please get in touch if you can help.

Many thanks,

Adam.

we may be able to work back from this marriage, using the 1901 census - but you may have to obtain the Cert to reveal Father's names of the couple.

Mothers Maiden Names appeared in the Birth Index from 1911/12 (cant remember exactly) - so there is most likely earlier births twixt these and the 1906 marriage ... searched up to 1929:-

Births Dec 1912

Slater  Gladys E  Mothers Maiden=Buxton  Oakham  v7a p590

~~~~~~~~
Births Sep 1915
Slater  Margaret M  Buxton  Oakham  v7a p580
~~~~~~~~

Births Jun 1920

Slater  Daisy E  Buxton  Oakham  7a 696

Births Mar 1923

Slater  Robert F  Buxton  Oakham  7a 575

for example, these are possibles, but you'd need to get the Certs to verify parents:-

Births Jun 1908

Slater  Ellen Edna M    Oakham  v7a p344

~~~~~~~~
Births Dec 1909
SLATER  Thomas William     Oakham  v7a p307
Hi
I will order this right now and keep you posted.
The sibling that I know least about is the sister Muriel Slater as she was refered to. Do you think that Margaret M Slater could be this Muriel?
Also, when my granddads mum remarried to Bob Slater, would any children they had registered in the index carry the mothers maiden name of Buxton or would she have put Slater?
These might be the later half-siblings:- (assuming she stuck to MN=Buxton - theres no Slaters tho)
Births Dec 1926
Taylor  John N  Mothers Maiden=Buxton  Oakham  v7a p499
~~~~~~~~

Births Dec 1928

Taylor  Peter R  Mothers Maiden=Buxton  Oakham  v7a p475

ADDED: yes, that initial M could be her - you'd need to order the full cert to verify  Smiley

Births Mar 1883

Slater  Thomas Robert     Oakham  v7a p347

Theres a Thomas Slater born c1883 in Greetham in the 1891 census (cant see him yet in 1901 census)

no middle initial tho ....

1891 - RG12/2547; Folio 105; Page 14 - Greetham
Great Lane

Mary Slater 48  Head Widow born Greetham (no occupation shown)
Sarah Slater 11  dau do
Mary A Slater 10  dau do
Thomas Slater 8  son born Greetham

looking at the 1881 - RG11/3186; Folio: 121; Page: 6 - Greetham , I'd say his Dad was Thomas - but Mary's age is way out ?
