Death Certificates for Mariners
« on: Monday 03 August 09 21:12 UTC (UK) »

Hello Everyone,
I have a problem. I have two Mariners in my Murray Family, who have died at sea, and I cannot find their Death Certificates - one of them died on a Spring Voyage to Quebec in 1853.
The other one died between 1866 and 1868, but I do not know where, as he does not appear on SP or FMP in England.
They were both called Alexander, but from different Murray Families.
Does anyone have any idea on how to proceed? I spent a whole day at Kew  looking for the 1853 death and got nowhere.
I hope someone can help me.

Hi Margaret,
As far as I know, the deaths would be registered in the country where the sailors died, (meaning the waters of the country).
So start looking in other countries for the deaths.
regards,
Joanne

Joanne,
Thank you very much for the reply - I am in the middle of looking at Quebec, but as yet cannot find anything.
Thanks for the advice.

You have a tough task ahead. I am sorry.
I would love to find some sailors too.
You could search the ships, they were on.

Easy said than done! Thanks for replying.
The Alexander that died in 1853, I have a possibility, and only a possibility that he was on maybe one of four ships; and the Alexander that died in 1866/1868 I have no idea what ship he was on at all. Thanks again.
