Rebecca There is a marriage of Philip Blunt and Eliza Jones, bachelor and spinster of the parish of Bishton, Monmouth, on 20th Oct 1846 both in the IGI (though it's a member's submission) and more conclusively in a transcription of Monmouth registers. Neither father's name was given. Both made their mark and the witnesses were James Davies and Esther Rosser, who both signed. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~monfamilies/Bishton-marr-1837-1919.htmBishton is only 20 miles away from Hewelsfield, and the date is about right, so it's a possibility, don't you think? Could be confirmed if you found Philip and Eliza together in the census. Gillg Hi Gillg,
Thanks for the link
That's really interesting and makes it a bit more confusing because this is the Philip Blunt that I found on 1851 census living in Glyncorrwg, Glamorgan which is in the district of Neath I think. Philip Blunt, Head, 29 b abt.1822, b. Chepstow, Monmouthshire. Occupation: Railway Labourer. Mary Ann Blunt, 25 b abt. 1826, b. Bristol. There is one other lodger living with them William Edward from Hampshire.
Source Citation Class:HO107, Piece: 2463, Folio: 438, Page 7. GSU roll: 104210.
I can't find a marriage record for Philip Blunt and Mary Ann so far on BMD or IGI ... They don't have any children yet so it seems like they might have recently married.
Maybe there are two Philip Blunt's living around the same area? I think that by 1861 census Philip has changed his last name to Powell.
I tried to post a link to another thread I started about his descendants in the Glamorgan section but the website wont let me ... a little copyright notice comes up on my screen.
It is under Powell & Gregory families in the Glamorgan, Wales section of the forum. It starts off with my great grandmother and then goes back - but you will see that the family has been a bit dysfunctional for a few generations.
The whole family is very mysterious anyway.

Don't want to lead you astray with this, Rebecca, but an Elizabeth Blunt died in Monmouth reg district in June 1850 Vol 26 Page 79. This would allow for Philip to have married Mary Ann as a second wife.
I looked at your entry on the Welsh board - what a complicated family!

Here's the link to the Glamorgan topic: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,390641.0.html
You need to go down the Control & Copy/Control & Paste route (click on Ctrl and c to copy and Ctrl and v to paste), as the system usually won't let you right click to copy and paste, as you have discovered.
