1851 Census look-up please
« on: Wednesday 05 August 09 14:45 UTC (UK) »

Hi All
I am looking for William Thorpe and his wife, who married in 1852, in the 1851 Census. Other than that he married a woman called Elizabeth Appleby and that his children were born in Essex, I know nothing about him.

Any help appreciated  Cheesy

so where did he marry, that would be a starting point ...

luckily of the only 4 WT's in Essex in 1851, 2 are already married, so in theory it only leaves these two to research ...

William Thorpe (father John) born c1825  Boxted, Essex living in Boxted, Essex
William Thorpe (parents William & Sarah) born c1850  Leigh, Essex living in Leigh, Essex

and of course the latter wasnt tall enough to sign the register   Wink

Yes, the marriage was in Lexden (sorry should have put that!  Embarrassed )
The Boxted one would fit perfectly as he was 59 in the 1881 Census!!

Choose    Wink

Elizabeth Appleby Father Joseph, Mum Susannah born c1835  Boxted, Essex Daughter  in Boxted, Essex

Elizabeth Appleby Father William, Mum Mary born c1837  Dedham, Essex Daughter  in Dedham, Essex

Eliza Appleby Father William, Mum Eliza born c1838  Layer De La Hay, Essex Daughter  in Layer de la Hay, Essex

all a bit young - of course she could be born elsewhere, a peek at 1861 may reveal her PoB - or you could splash out on the Marriage Cert to reveal their Father's names .....

On The 1881 Census she has her p.o.b. down as Boxted. But they do all seem a touch young to be wed in 1852!!!

Undecided
