Looking for Phoebe's grave
« on: Wednesday 05 August 09 20:07 UTC (UK) »

Phoebe Tidd was my gt-gt-gt grandmother and I would dearly like to find her grave - I'm hoping that someone will have access to a resource that might turn up her name.

She was born in Screveton (Phoebe Hallam) and died 82 years later, on 9 January 1886, in Flintham. In the 1851, 61, 71 and 81 censuses she was living in Nottingham with her growing children or grandchildren. The last of those shows her at 5, Norton Place, St Nicholas, Nottingham, with her adult son Alfred and adult granddaughters Emma and Elizabeth Green.

I have bought the NFHS CD showing burials in the county and she's not on there! So I presume she's buried in one of the parishes that isn't featured - I don't know where else outside the county she could have been buried as she lived in Nottinghamshire all her life.

edited to add - maybe she was buried with her husband John Ludley Tidd, who died on 22.8 1868 at Norton Place, Castle Terrace. I can't find him either.

So if anyone has any other resources at their fingertips and could check for me, I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks Smiley

Hi

Could they both be buried in public graves?  As you have their actual dates and places of death have you tried contacting Notts PRO to see if they can help with the location of their graves

Yes they would - The reason I mentioned the possibility of a public burial was that there would be no marker on the grave for identification purposes.  If you visited - there would probably just be a piece of grassed land

A few of my ancestors had public burials
