Hi

There's a posting on  for John ROWLEY born 1811 Uley, parents Mary and Richard.

If it isn't your posting, it might be worth contacting the researcher?

regards

Hi

I went to the local record office today and looked at the Parish records for Uley. There were no baptism records for John Rowley between 1810 and 1812.

The nearest was a John Cowley (quite distinctly a 'C') on 25 Dec 1810 to Richard Cowley and his wife. Wife's name was unreadable but was quite long and ended in 'amina'. It didn't look like Wilhelmina or anything else I could recognise.

Sorry I couldn't find anything better for you.

Good luck with the search

Re: John Cowley of Uley.

John Cowley c 25.12.1810 Uley was the son of Richard Cowley & Loruhamah Chew (m17.8.1789 Uley). Loruhamah is a biblical name.

The above is an offshoot of my own Cowley line starting with William Cowley born circa 1704 of Berkeley, Cam, Uley & Slimbridge.

Hi Criggy

What a wonderful name - Loruhamah  Smiley No wonder I couldn't work out what it was, what with the dreadful writing and all. Thanks for clearing that up.

It doesn't seem likely that it's the one Skylark was looking for though, so we've probably drawn a blank there  Sad

Thank you both for all of your trouble.

I have found that John had a brother (cousin?) Richard b. 1801/5, Uley - in 1841 they were both living in Kirby Mallory.

Richard was living there with his parents (or maybe not his parents) Thomas and Alice, both b. 1771/6.  If Richard is John's brother and not a cousin, then Thomas and Alice are also his parents. BUT I have found Richards ch. 12 Oct 1806 Uley to William and Sarah.

I have also found a John Rowley ch. 5 May 1811 Westbury-on-Trym, to John and Hannah.  Is Westbury far from Uley?

Hi Skylark

Westbury on Trym is on the northern outskirts of Bristol, so estimate about 18 miles from Uley.  You wouldn't have wanted to commute (and it isn't easy nowadays either! LOL)

It seems that sometimes people gave their place of birth as the place they remember being brought up in.  Maybe they moved when he was still young?
