1871 census - courtney
« on: Tuesday 01 March 05 15:52 GMT (UK) »

Look up request please. I am unable to find Richard, Emma, Richard 9jnr) or Mary jane Courtney on the 1871 census via ancestry. I know that in 1872 they were in Wemouth workhouse. Mary jane Courtney was born in the same workhouse in 1868. Can anyone help or advise please?

Hi Beatrice

Do you have dates/places of birth for any of them - from another census perhaps?

Best wishes

Hi thanks for your interest

Mary  Jane Courtney was born in Union Workhouse, Weymouth 1868
Richard Courtney (junior) was born in Tunbridge Wells in 1866 and Emma Courtney (nee Burge) was born in Brighton circa 1837. They seem to be completed vanished from anywhere on the 1871 census so any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Beatrice,

It's still early days yet, so wait a bit, but if nobody on RootsChat can help, then here is another possibility:

On the Dorset Online Parish Clerks site www.dorset-opc.com click on Weymouth.

This takes you to the OPC for Weymouth at: http://www.bmvdesign.co.uk/opc/ with this information:

You can e-mail me at [e-mail address] please put OPC Weymouth in the subject line,
at present I have available for lookup: .... access to 1871 [census], ...

Hi Beatrice,
I've had a search for them in 1871, various spellings ways of searching, and as you found nothing. All I can say is they are not in Weymouth workhouse as I've just looked through the images. Will do some more searches and get back to you. Regards Jan
