John Grice born 1814 Oakthorpe.

There were two John Grice registered in Measham. The first 1814 to Thomas and Elizabeth.  The second 1815 to James and Elizabeth.
My John was definately born in Oakthorpe.  John moved to Wednesbury Staffs. and married Maria?, their daughter was Ann, born 1854 in Wednesbury.  Does anyone know of John's birth and parents?

                   Could this be your couple

John Grice m Maria Evans  13 Mar 1837  West Bromwich.

If you know which part of Bromwich they were in you could work out which church they were married in and try for the parish records. If you are lucky it might mention parents.

Hi Skylark,

Using the recently released indexed 1861 Census images on Ancestry.com, I looked for the two John GRICEs you have mentioned, and could only see yours, living in Wednesbury - no sign of the other one.  It's a long shot, perhaps, but it's possible the "other" John GRICE died in infancy, in which case you will probably find a record of his burial in the parish registers!  In addition, while you are there, you can check to see if it records "your" John GRICE's parents' residence as Oakthorpe (they commonly did).

Thank you both for your suggestions.

I am, at the moment, waiting for one of their children's birth certificate to come back.  It will give me the mothers maiden name and then I should be able to find a marriage, and hence farthers names.
