Accuracy of 1871 census - BERTIE query
« on: Thursday 06 August 09 17:15 UTC (UK) »

I searched the 1871 census on Ancestry and think I've found the right entry for Mary Ann Bertie and 4 of her children Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Margaret and James living at 9 Shore Wynd, Montrose. The names fit, but the ages don't all make sense - eg Margaret Bertie is listed as a scholar aged 40 when my Margaret Bertie should be 10!

However, this is from the transcribed entry. Is it possible that a mistake was made in transcribing the original? Does anyone have access to the original to do a lookup to check?

Many thanks for your help

As Mary Ann aged 42 and Margaret aged 40 are also listed as Daughters of the head of the household Mary Ann aged 34, I would suspect that someone has transcribed 1 as 4 in both cases.
